What Is Biodanza?

Biodanza is a system created by Rolando Toro Araneda, Chilean professor of psychology and educator, in the 1960s, and which was inspired by anthropological and ethological sources. The theoretical foundations of Biodanza come from Biology, the Science of Life.

Rolando carried out clinical experiments with psychiatric patients to verify the vivencias that music can induce in people. He concluded that each disturbance requires certain musical stimuli and that music has a healing power capable of modifying chronic physical and emotional states.

The research was developed over 25 years of confrontation with reality, until reaching the development of a scientific theoretical model, of a biological nature, which, based on the genetic potential inherent in human beings, proposes lines of vivencia, or differentiated vital needs, which he called the Five Lines of Vitality, Sexuality, Creativity, Affectivity and Transcendence, which allow and stimulate the development of the said genetic potential.

In summary, what is proposed with Biodanza is that each person is gradually responsible for their own personal growth, that they be able to integrate all these aspects in their daily life, that they can create new motivations to live and, above all, that they maintain a lifestyle based on health and well-being.

Biodanza is a system of human integration, organic renewal, affective re-education and re-learning of the original functions of life. Its methodology consists of inducing integrative experiences through music, song, movement and group encounters.
